Fund-Able

Millions of people around the world vent their frustrations and champion causes on social media, but few are channeled to affect the purpose they support. Fund-able listens and funnels their will into actively supporting, funding and building social enterprises.

Fundable monitors the emergence of small and large concerns being raised on social media and recruits the most passionate campaigners to start a social enterprise to mitigate the challenge.

FEATURES

As the foundations are built, Fund-able listens and waits for a critical mass of users before seizing the moment and simultaneously inviting all identified users to visit the campaign site where they can contribute with money, time or skills.

During and after funding the platform facilitates distributed management of the project, each peer evaluates cost of each task and the work carried out by each member to ensure the project keeps on track and on budget. After reaching its initial goals, the organisation becomes independent and contributors are given the option to take the reigns.

The prototype scraped social media hashtags to understand the sentiment behind the posts and model its trajectory in order to anticipate when the movement will reach its required volume of users for a project to be successful.

The dashboard is home to the projects being auto-initiated and enriched by users. Heat maps visualise where certain topics are being discussed to let the individual know they are not alone. During the initial stages of a campaign users can suggest interventions that should be made to alleviate the issue.

Project contributors are connected by a project management tool which uses blockchain to approve each contribution and pay out to skill providers.

FUTURE OF COMMUNITY HACK

Dubai’s Community Development Authority (CDA) collaborated with Hackmasters to build a vision for community services in 2025. As well as managing Fund-able’s team, I was part of the team designing and implementing the hack. The briefs for the hack were built after stakeholder workshops, interviews and system analysis.

Fund-able was presented to a panel featuring directors of CDA, local business leaders and members of UK DIT (Department of International Trade) in August 2017. The project has since been developed further and was presented to Dubai 10x’s evaluation panel in February 2018.
