Stow
We have lost touch with nature, without detailed storage information, complex packaging and constant reminders, we are all likely to waste the food we buy. Stow celebrates the fruit and vegetables it stores by enhancing their taste and creating a more transparent, engaging and easy to use third storage space, all the while eliciting responsibility from consumers.
Stow is a fruit and vegetable storage unit which uses passive evaporative cooling to keep its contents at a mild temperature and high humidity.
In these conditions many types of fruit and vegetables will stay fresher for longer whilst maintaining their natural taste and texture.
Users need simply add 500ml of fresh water everyday to maintain its cooling and humidifying effects. This routine engagement reduces the chances of food being forgotten and wasted.
FEATURES
3rd Space
Fresh produce storage that keeps many fruit and vegetables fresher for up to 3 times longer than fridge and fruit bowls.

No Energy Required
Pour 500ml of water into the reservoir daily. Wicking fabrics and gravity diffuse the moisture across the surface of the unit and the evaporating water results in a 2-3 degree change inside.
Natural Habit
Herb planters on the exterior of the unit stabilise temperature and create a natural reminder to water the unit.
Food waste reduction is the most impactful and achievable approach to reducing the carbon emissions of the food industry. Stow is part of a spectrum of tools needed to enable our new relationship with the food we eat.
Stow was presented as an individual project at Design & Innovation (MEng) at Goldsmiths & QMUL and displayed at Imagineers Degree Show in London in 2014.
